The Bonbon Boys is the brainchild Kalem Brinkworth (27) and Joe Quinlan (26) who both live and work in Dorset. The business has been created during lockdown as they both have a passion and a taste for sweets and confectionery.

Sweet-toothed Kalem Brinkworth and Joe Quinlan came up with the idea of home-delivered candy boxes after the traditional Pick ‘n’ Mix were restricted or suspended from the usual outlets during the lockdown and within two weeks, the duo sourced more than 200 kg of sweets, covering over 30 varieties, with vegan options and sustainable packaging.

They also developed a fun, tongue-in-cheek brand designed to resonate with anyone who likes a nibble – but on something sugary.

The business officially launched on June 18 and quickly surpassed 100 orders in their first weekend which included Father’s Day. Handcrafted and sustainable boxes were delivered across Dorset and to all four corners of the country including Aberdeenshire, Cornwall and Kent.

Joe said: “We started the business with an open mind, a limited budget and a love of confectionery. It just seemed a good idea for a business and as we’ve always wanted to have our own business and this seemed the right time, especially with the growth in home deliveries due to the lockdown.”

Kalem, 27, added: “It’s the nostalgia of tucking into a box of good old-fashioned Pick ‘n’ Mix that takes us back to simpler times.

Said Joe, ‘We both grew up with a love of sweets, a sweet tooth and a sheer love of all things confectionery, from the tastes, the packaging and the feel good factor. The business was founded on the basis that Pick ‘n’ Mix was not available during lockdown in its usual outlets during the COVID-19 epidemic due to concerns around hygiene. There was a new digital tide turning as people were finding new ways to brighten up their days in isolation with home deliveries of luxuries that wouldn’t normally be deliverable.

Alongside their retro and contemporary favourites box, The ‘Classic’ One, they’re now turning their attention to The ‘Vegan’ One, full of tantalising treats, without the gelatine.

Retailing at just £10.95, customers can enjoy a 9” pizza box full of nostalgic delights to share with the whole family…or just keep it for themself.
