A pair of madcap motorists are to drive 1,111 mile to Monte Carlo for charity – with their wives in the back seat navigating.

Robert Ings and John Hawkins who belong to Twynham Lodge of Freemasons in Christchurch have to complete the journey in a car costing less than £500.
They have bought a P-reg Jaguar XJ6 and hope to raise £2,000 for Macmillan Caring Locally and Parent Support Link.

The pair of Freemasons and their wives Serena Ings and Rhona Hawkins anticipate four days of motoring during the trek in June.

The Monte Carlo or Bust! adventure leaves from Christchurch Masonic Centre on June 4 and will cross the Channel at Dover before heading for the Mediterranean.
Rob, an HGV mechanic and recovery driver, said: “We wanted to raise some money and this seemed like a great idea at the time.

“We have bought an old Jaguar and will spend four days at the wheel – and because  sat-navs aren’t allowed, we’ll have our wives in the back with maps.

“We are still looking for sponsorship so if any business wants their logo on our car then let us know. And people can sponsor us through our Go Fund Me page.”

These rallies have been held for a number of years and organisers encourage the participants and their vehicles to be in fancy dress.

Rob and John, from Christchurch, will be uploading details of their journey on the Twynham Lodge Facebook page and people can donate via the Go Fund Me page at:
