A talented researcher at Royal Bournemouth Hospital has received the coveted Outstanding Individual Achievement Award at the Clinical Research Network Wessex Awards.

Laura Purandare, a research manager at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, was presented with the exceptional award on Thursday 21 March at St. Mary’s Stadium in Southampton. The Outstanding Individual Achievement Award is a prestigious award reserved until the end of the night to recognise the individual who has made a significant contribution to research.

Laura began working at Royal Bournemouth Hospital over 14 years ago as a data manager, progressing to her current position as Acting Head of Research. Laura is the clinical practice educator for the region and also promotes the appraisal process for staff.

Laura said: “What a lovely surprise! Seeing the results of the research we’re conducting, and the difference it can make to our current and future patients is reward enough. I love my job so winning this award feels so special. Thanks to Jo for nominating me and thanks to the Clinical Research Network – I’m ecstatic!

Lead Research Nurse, Jo Samways, who nominated Laura for the award, said “Laura works tirelessly everyday day, often working 12 hour days to ensure that research constantly grows at our hospitals. On one occasion she worked all weekend to ensure a research study was approved so that one of our cancer patients could have access to the treatment. She always goes above and beyond to help everyone. We’re so lucky to have Laura in our team.”
