MP Conor Burns visited Yellow Buses to see how a modern bus company operates – and heard how congestion was driving up costs.

The Bournemouth West Member of Parliament was shown around the Yeomans Way depot by managing director Andrew Smith.

He sat at the wheel of one of the new, eco-friendly, wi-fi enabled double deckers and spoke with staff and apprentices.

Mr Burns, who was elected to parliament in 2010, lives close to the cliff-top in the town and mentioned how Yellow Buses’ open toppers went past his home during the summer.

He said: “It was great to get a look behind the scenes of the operation that keeps the Yellow Buses’ fleet on the road.

“The service isn’t just something we take for granted – it is a lifeline for many of my constituents.

“The investment in new vehicles is as impressive as the investment in the apprentices who will secure a safe and reliable service for years to come.

“Making the service more reliable and comfortable is one way to ease the increasing blight of congested roads.”

Andrew Smith said: “Our commercial director Paul Wren joined me in a constructive meeting with Conor.

“We spoke about the difficulties and pressures facing bus operators and the problem of congestion across the conurbation.

“It’s good to be able to have a chance to explain to people what it takes to keep a large fleet of vehicles on the road.”
