Young 'Dragons' get a Taste for Business

Reciprocal Celebrate Success

Swedish bank Handelsbanken is celebrating the success of a group of young business ‘dragons’.

For the third year running the bank’s Bournemouth branch acted as business adviser to students taking part in the Enterprise Challenge scheme.

This year’s group, called Reciprocal, was made up of pupils from Bournemouth School and Bournemouth School for Girls.

The 16 and 17 year olds sourced four products to sell at trade fairs – pashminas, key rings, fridge magnets and air horns. Team members were  allocated roles for marketing, finance, sales and ICT as in a normal business.

Handelsbanken hosted the group’s meetings at its Richmond Hill offices with three members of staff, Charlie Sutcliffe, Dave Shering and Steve Johnson-King, offering help and guidance.

Their hard work paid off with Reciprocal winning the prizes for Finance and Best Trade Stand in the Enterprise Challenge 2010 Awards.

Nick Lowe, Branch Manager, said: “We’re delighted with the success of Reciprocal.

“Enterprise Challenge is a great way of introducing young people to the highs and lows of running a business and we were very pleased to once again play our part in this innovative scheme.”

Enterprise Challenge is organised by the Wimborne-based Enterprise & Skills Company.
